Rockefeller Center Channel Gardens

URBAN PLAZA

NEW YORK, NY

  • The narrative of the Channel Gardens begins with John D. Rockefeller Jr’s vision in the 1930’s, aiming to create a space of tranquility within the bustling city. The gardens, located between the British Empire Building and La Maison Francaise are a testament to this vision. Our rotational planting designs commenced when spring emerged at the garden this year with a naturalized blend of shade tolerant native plantings and spring flowering bulbs. Summer will bring transition from spring’s tender foliage to a lush verdant garden. High branched woodlands anchor each end of the garden. The woodlands give way to clearings or glades filled with delightful natives providing a symphony of blooms throughout the season. This re-wilding effort enhances this iconic space where people gather, connect and find inspiration and also provides a corridor for pollinators enhancing the city’s ecosystem.
