Rockefeller Center Sunken Plaza

URBAN PLAZA

NEW YORK, NY

  • Bringing nature into the city is integral to the seasonal transformation of Rockefeller Center’s Sunken Plaza from skating rink extravaganza to a resplendent summer experience. The supporting planting design includes a host of native, adaptive native and pollinator plants furthering Tishman Speyer’s ethos of the ‘re-wilding’ of Rockefeller Plaza. Movable planters at the north and south provide a foliated separation of outdoor restaurants and the central public gathering space. Dwarf shrub, meadow and perennial plantings provide a unique visual layering from the plaza access stairs and The Channel Gardens to the east.
